Nanci Owens Wilcox (photo from 50th reunion

Nanci Owens Wilcox passed away peacefully in Tucson on Tuesday, August 10th 2010.  She had endured for some time, the effects of Emphysema, a debilitating lung  disease that most of us know something about. Her daughter Wendy discovered her at her home.   It also claimed the life of Nanci's Mom some years earlier.

Nanci was born in March 1938,  She was 72. Nanci was raised in and lived her entire life in Tucson from 1943.. She graduated from Amphitheater High School in 1956.  Nanci was a very likeable person and had a gift as being easy to talk to, possibly because of her soft-spoken nature and was always great fun to be around, She was an inspiration to many who knew her.  She had a seemingly endless good nature and personality to go with it, despite the illness.   I'm sure the book she read over and over about her Best Friend and His Father carried her through her hardest times.  The Book was her Bible.

Nanci is survived by four children...Monte, Mark, Wendy and Leah.  She was married to Gene Wilcox but they divorced early on. Several years back, one of her sons drove her to the 50th Class Reunion and picked her up.  We're glad he did, because for many of us it was the last time we had a chance to speak with her.  Dottie said she had an opportunity to speak with her on one other occasion following the reunion.  Nanci had one sister, Dixie Owens, who passed away very shortly afterwards; she was formerly married to Joe Unruh, a brother of Sharon Unruh (Hopstetter) class of '56

Others who knew her well, spoke of her with great admiration and affection.  Nanci will be greatly missed by her family and classmates of Amphi 1956.

During the time that most of us knew Nanci especially during those school days, she spelled her name with an ' i ', although her given name was with a 'y' for those who may have questions.
