Dear  Family and Friends

At 9:34 this morning Patty passed away with a last smile, peacefully holding my hand; at her side, her granddaughter Merissa held her other hand and her mother Karen Hart standing beside the bed. A celebration of life was held here at home.

Former Alaska resident Patricia Jean Hart, 69, died March 22, 2008, of ovarian cancer in Sequim, Wash.
A celebration of life will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at her home in Sequim.
Patricia was born Sept. 1, 1938, in Tucson, Ariz., to Thomas "Bill" and Evelyn Callaghan. She attended Amphitheater High School and married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Hart, on May 28, 1954.
She traveled where her husband's job took them, from Arizona to California. In 1963, they finally settled in Anchorage, where she raised her family.
Patty worked for the State of Alaska and as a successful, self-employed bookkeeper for several companies before retiring and moving to Wasilla. When her husband retired, they bought the typical motor home with the intention of traveling the U.S., but they only had to go as far as Sequim to find their dream home.
They left Alaska in 1998.
Patty was an avid reader who tried to instill and nurture the joy of reading in others. She prided herself on growing roses in Alaska, dabbled at the piano and mastered crossword puzzles.
"As we celebrate her life, she will always be remembered as a strong and passionate woman who called it like she saw it, yet enriched, empowered, and encouraged others with loving guidance," her family recalled.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Thomas Hart, of Sequim; son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Carol Hart of Anchorage; daughter and son-in-law, Lynne Hart and Mark Wilcox of Anchorage; daughter-in-law, Karen Hart of Westport, Wash.; brother and wife, Harold and Karen Callaghan of Aberdeen, Wash.; grandson, Jason Hart and companion Tracy Balovich of Juneau; granddaughter and husband, Merissa and Ethan Gargiulo of Moore, Okla.; grandson, Matthew McCourt and companion Meghan Quint of Seattle; two great-grandchildren, Liam and Cole; and many other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas C. Hart.
Donations may be sent to the Clallam County Hospice, P.O. Box 2014, Port Angeles, WA 98362. Friends may send condolences and view the online obituary at www.legacy.com.

Published in the Anchorage Daily News on 3/27/2008.
