Salute Heroes

Salute Heroes is one of the nonprofit charity organization dedicated to helping severely wounded troops from the War on Terror.

There is nothing on this earth tougher than an American warrior. However, more and more troops return home every day suffering from debilitating injuries… Injuries that didn’t just shatter their bodies, but also left many of them with the invisible scars of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI). Click in and see how Salute Heroes has helped in so many ways.

Fisher Houses Inc., a private organization that, like McDonald Houses, provides housing for military families who need a place to stay while their loved ones are recouperating from their war injuries.  For anyone interested in donating, their website is above.

Our organization is strongly committed to helping those who have selflessly given to their country and have returned home with serious disabilities and injuries. Homes for Our Troops assists injured veterans and their immediate families by building new or adapting existing homes for handicapped accessibility for these American heroes.

Their site lists money donations, building materials, and volunteer positions as ways to help.

Sergeant Brian Horn from LaPlata, Maryland, an Army Infantry Soldier with the 173rd Airborne Brigade was in the Kirkuk area of Iraq when he started the idea of AnySoldier to help care for his soldiers. He agreed to distribute packages that came to him with "Attn: Any Soldier" in his address to the soldiers who were not getting mail.
Brian is no longer in Iraq but Any Soldier Inc. continues with your support.

Any Soldier Inc. started in August 2003 as a simple family effort to help the soldiers in one Army unit, thus our name. However, due to overwhelming requests, on 1 January 2004 our effort was expanded to include any member, of any of the Armed Services, in harms way.

We now help approx 115,000 soldiers

In March of 2004, actor Gary Sinise and author Laura Hillenbrand announced the launch of Operation Iraqi Children, a program that will enable Americans to send School Supply Kits to Iraqi children. The effort was inspired by their conversations with Operation Iraqi Freedom soldiers as well as Sinise's tour of the region.  It is a grass roots program to provide concerned Americans with a means to reach out to Iraqi kids and help support our own soldiers' efforts to assist the Iraqi people.

Through the School Supply Kit Program, American children, church groups, and other organizations can help Iraqis by gathering school supplies in local drives, assembling them in kits according to our instructions, then sending them to the VFW for transport to Iraq, where our soldiers will take them to Iraqi villages.

Wounded Warrior Project Mission

The Wounded Warrior Project was founded on the principle that veterans are our nation's greatest citizens. The Project seeks to assist those men and women of our armed forces who have been severely injured during the conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other hot spots around the world. Many of the injuries are traumatic amputations, gunshot wounds, burns and blast injuries that will retire these brave warriors from military service. These wounded soldiers will return to civilian life minus one or more limbs, or with serious wounds or disfiguring scars, and will face greater challenges today obtaining assistance and finding opportunities that would enable them to provide for themselves and their families.

The Wounded Warrior Project was founded to give a voice to this new generation of veterans facing unique issues and problems. The Project fills the vital need for a coordinated, united effort to enable wounded veterans to aid and assist each other and to readjust to civilian life.

The Wounded Warrior Project is a program of United Spinal Association, which is a 501(c)(3) organization. All donations to the Project are tax deductible

Other organizations in need are your local food banks. Many military families need to use the food banks because they cannot afford to feed their families otherwise. This is something we can all do if we cannot send money to the sites listed. The feeling is just as warm.

Here are several more websites devoted to aid and comfort for the US serviceman/woman, and a number of them only require your heartfelt thoughts and expressions without having to donate money:
